Memorial Day weekend is upon us, the unofficial start of summer, and there's plenty to do in the 黑料福利社. If you need an excuse to get out of town, take a short drive to Packwood for the twice-a-year flea market that takes over the whole town.

Davis Art Show

The community is invited to the 11th annual Davis Art Show, now through May 28, 2026. The gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Davis High School KIVA, 212 S. Sixth Ave.

The annual art show celebrates dedication, creativity and visual achievement of Davis Art Department student artists.

A special evening showcase will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 20. Visitors can appreciate artwork with students, staff, families and community members in a relaxed setting.

Some of the pieces of art will be available to purchase, directly supporting young artists.

Latino baseball exhibit at CWU

Step up to the plate and explore the early history of Latino baseball players in the United States at an exhibition at Central Washington University.

鈥淏eisboleros: The Early History of Latino Baseball Players in the United States 1868-1930鈥 is on display at the Museum of Culture and Environment in Dean Hall, 400 E. University Way, Ellensburg.

The 鈥淏eisboleros鈥 exhibit will be on display through June 13 and from Sept. 23 through Dec. 4. The Museum of Culture and Environment is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.

The exhibit was researched and curated by CWU Associate Professor of Political Science Gilberto Garcia and examines the culture, racism and economics that shaped the experiences of early Latino players in American baseball.

The exhibit is co-sponsored by the Center for Latino and Latin American Studies.

Packwood Flea Market

Twice a year, the town of Packwood opens its streets and free spaces to vendors and visitors looking for a great deal.

The Memorial Day weekend flea market will take place Friday through Monday. Hundreds of vendors set up shop with antiques, clothing, household items, novelties, d茅cor and more.

Just about an hour and a half drive from Yakima, you'll travel about 70 miles westbound on U.S. Highway 12.

• Yakima Symphony Orchestra’s new chamber music summer series begins this week with “Youthful Brilliance and Heroic Expansion,” featuring the YSO String Quartet. A free and open to the public concert will start at 2 p.m. Friday at West Valley Library, 223 S. 72nd Ave. Visit . for the full schedule of free and ticketed concerts and companion lectures.

鈥 Lena and The Bear will perform from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Valley Brewing Company, 3215 River Road, on the backyard stage. The duo plays acoustic, classic rock and country music, originals and classic favorites.

鈥 Singer and acoustic guitarist Michael Cabrera is scheduled to perform live from 6-8 p.m. Friday at DoodleVines Winery and Event Center, 2410 Naches Heights Road, Yakima.

鈥 Team Welle hosts music bingo from 6-8:30 p.m. Friday at Rooted 黑料福利社, 26 N. First St., Yakima. Music bingo is just like bingo but callers play music clips instead of calling numbers. The free event is family-friendly and players can win prizes.

Plan ahead

Tickets for Sip & Snip, a fundraiser for Valley Spay & Neuter clinic by 黑料福利社 Pet Rescue, are on sale now. The event is from 5 to 9 p.m. May 28 at the Yakima Country Club, 500 Country Club Drive, Yakima. Funds raised benefit the Valley Spay & Neuter clinic for reduced or free spay and neuter services for the community.

Tickets for the 21 and older event cost $80 per person and include heavy appetizers (Asian fusion), two drink tickets and access to a silent auction and raffle. Purchase tickets now at .
