To the editor — This year, America's celebration of Memorial Day coincides with a significant spiritual marker: exactly seven years until Pentecost 2033, the 2,000th anniversary of the universal body of Christ!

This intersection of renewal mirrors the resilience I see around us. Like the profound compassion that united folk in Joplin, Mo., (NPR story) following their devastating tragedy, we are called to uplift one another.

In my own life, energy and renewal take practical forms. Through government incentives, I drive an electric car and harvest solar power, utilizing Pacific Power’s net metering policy to offset installation costs. My car's regenerative braking captures kinetic energy, turning deceleration into power.

This dynamic perfectly reflects the true meaning of Pentecost. Just as Pentecost revitalized the ancient Jewish festival of Shavuot, it also regenerates human hearts. The compassion shown in Joplin proves that communities can heal and rebuild together. For followers of Jesus, the Holy Spirit expands our capacity for love, empowering justice and humanity across all nations.

P.S.: Pentecost 2033 can become our vision/goal for our democratic republic’s resilience after removing the corrupting cancer of greed embedded into our national leadership after Project 2025, eh? What a devastating last week of Eastertide 2026!
