Matt Barker, a Yakima Republican, has joined the Yakima County auditor race. Barker will face incumbent Charles Ross, who has held the office since 2014.
Two more candidates have filed for Position 1 on the Board of Yakima County聽Commissioners, challenging Sheriff Robert Udell. Dave Mullen, a 36-year-old healthcare technology manager who lives in Selah, is running as a Republican. Mullen previously served on the Moxee City Council and currently serves as a precinct committee officer. Roman Buermann, a deputy clerk for the Yakima County Superior Court clerk鈥檚 office, also filed on Thursday. The Moxee resident is running as a Tea Party Republican.
The commissioner position is now held by McKinney, who is seeking the congressional seat.
More people also are filing for precinct committee officer. PCOs are the grassroots link between voters in each of the county鈥檚 voting precincts and the political parties. Each precinct can elect one Republican and one Democratic representative. There is no filing fee.
PCOs are elected in the August primary, though only positions with two or more candidates in the same precinct will appear on the ballot. Filings can be viewed at .
The primary election is Aug. 4, and the general election is Nov. 3. The top-two finishers in the primary, regardless of party, advance to the general election in November.
Declarations of candidacy must be received by 5 p.m. on Friday, May 8. Information on how to file is posted on the Yakima County Auditor's Office website.
