Yakima County commissioners are considering new speed limits on multiple county roads.

A public hearing on a speed limit reduction on University Parkway near Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences is scheduled for June 16. County staff are recommending the speed limit be reduced from 40 to 35 miles per hour between Terrace Heights Drive and Keys Road.

The county also received petitions for speed limit reductions from 30 to 25 mph on a portion of Tipp Road and 25 to 10 mph on a portion of Wilson Road. It also received a petition to change the speed limit from unposted to 30 mph on Pomona Heights Road between Firing Center Road and Wilson Road, and a petition to change the speed limit from unposted to 35 mph on a portion of West Wapato Road.

County staff are recommending no changes on Tipp and Wilson roads, a change to 45 mph on Pomona Heights Road and a change to 40 mph on West Wapato Road. The public hearing for those changes is scheduled for June 9.

Both public hearings will be at 10 a.m. Participants can attend in person at the Board of Yakima County Commissioners basement conference room 33B at 128 N. Second St. in Yakima, or virtually via Zoom.
