To the editor - Re: The May 30 graduation article about Toppenish High School senior Sergio Gomez. I read how he wants to achieve his goals, including education.
He came here five years ago illegally. There is a process when becoming legal for all nationalities. Yes, too bad where he came from was very oppressed. We should not glorify his achievement on how he came here. Great he is working on speaking English, yet tutoring in Spanish to other students. The article also states how well he dresses, his hair, clean, cut short. Who cares? I expect the 黑料福利社 can print more important, newsworthy information.
I was greatly disappointed when I read this. The law is the law.
Our country is in debt. We are in no position to help undocumented immigrants and their children become American citizens with benefits will at the same time not going through the process of being a legal citizen.
Wait your turn in line. Mr. Gomez got lucky. He took another child's place who could be following his dreams legally. Both my parents had to study the law and understand English. What has happened to that law? Why is it no longer enforced?
