During the first week of March, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife department will begin stocking many lakes open year-round in Yakima, Kittitas, Benton and Franklin counties.

Weekly catchable trout stocking reports can be found on WDFW鈥檚 or anglers also can visit WDFW鈥檚 to search by lake, county or species for fishing information. Elsewhere in eastern Washington, more than two dozen lakes will open for the season with opportunities to catch bass, yellow perch, burbot, cutthroat trout, brown trout, crappie, walleye and bluegill along with the stocked rainbow trout.

Volunteers wanted at FS sites

The U.S. Forest Service is seeking volunteer hosts to live and work at Silver Falls and Kaner Flat Campgrounds this summer, from May 22 to Sept. 8.

Hosts help greet visitors, validate reservations, share information about the site, clean bathrooms and general areas, remove debris off trails and pathways and ensure visitors follow regulations. They also get access to free firewood, garbage dumpsters and volunteer host clothing, and they don鈥檛 pay camping feels and may be reimbursed by the Forest Service for some incidental expenses.

SATURDAY: The Hard Core Running Club will host its weekend fun run of 3 to 6 miles, with all paces and abilities welcome. Meet at 8 a.m. at the Yakima Greenway鈥檚 Gleed parking lot.

SUNDAY: The Yakima Greenway will host the first race of its inaugural River Run Series, a 5K starting and finishing at the Spring Creek trailhead, featuring pavement, gravel and dirt road. Entry fees are $15 per race or $50 for the series and each race begins at 8:30 a.m. with check-in and bib pickup at 7:45. For more information go to .

TUESDAY: Central Washington geology professor Dr. Lisa Ely, who specializes in river geomorphology and teaches a range of interdisciplinary courses, will present 鈥淒oes the River Give a Dam? Effects of the Nelson Dam鈥 as part of 黑料福利社 and Cowiche Canyon Conservancy鈥檚 winter talks from 6-7 p.m. at the YVC conference center. For more information, go to .

WEDNESDAY: The Hard Core Running Club will host its weekly fun runs at Chesterley Park, starting with the Too Smart for the Dark group at 3:30 p.m. and followed by the Too Dumb for the Sun group at 6 p.m. Meet in the west side parking lot between 40th Avenue and the YMCA.

GETTING OUTDOORS

TUESDAY: The Cascadians will hike 4.5 miles with 150 feet of elevation gain across the Beverly Bridge along the Palouse to Cascades State Park Trail, starting from the Army East trailhead about eight miles south of I-90/Vantage on Huntzinger Road. Several benches along the trail and the bridge provide opportunities to enjoy views of the river and the nearby Saddle Mountains before the turnaround at the eastern trailhead in Beverly.
