The Yakima Greenway is pictured Wednesday, adjacent to the former Kmart near East Nob Hill Boulevard and Interstate 82.

The Yakima Greenway's introducing the River Run Series, four 5K races to showcase different parts of the nearly 20-mile pathway stretching from Union Gap to Naches.

Races will be held every third Sunday at 8:30 a.m. starting on March 1 with a cost of $15 per race or $50 for all four with a series T-shirt. The top three men and women will be awarded medals in three different categories聽鈥 17 years old & under, 18-50 and 50+.

The series is set to begin with a course near Spring Creek covering pavement, gravel and a dirt road as it winds past ponds, wetlands and stretches of the Yakima River, all south of State Route 24. On March 22, the series heads to Robertson Landing for a course going alongside Yakima Sportsman State Park and Buchanan Lake up to Sarg Hubbard Park and back with two short paved hills.

The April 3 race starting at the Rotary Lake parking lot features the Humane Spirit Trail, offering a blend of pavement, gravel and dirt roads. Finally, the fourth race starts and ends at Harlan Landing in the Selah Gap, an out and back stretching into Yakima for the turnaround point.

SATURDAY:聽The Hard Core Running Club will host its weekend fun run of 3 to 6 miles, with all paces and abilities welcome. Meet at 8 a.m. at the Yakima Greenway鈥檚 Gleed parking lot.

SUNDAY:聽The Hard Core Running Club will host the 44th annual Frosty Four, a four-mile race along the Yakima Greenway starting and ending at Sarg Hubbard Park at noon. Entry fees are $10 for members, $15 for nonmembers and $5 for runners 12 and under with a registered adult. WEDNESDAY:聽The Hard Core Running Club will host its weekly fun runs at Chesterley Park, starting with the Too Smart for the Dark group at 3:30 p.m. and followed by the Too Dumb for the Sun group at 6 p.m. Meet in the west side parking lot between 40th Avenue and the YMCA.

GETTING OUTDOORS

SUNDAY: The Kittitas Environmental Education Network will host a two-mile walk alnog the paths at the Yakima Canyon Interpretative Center near Ellensburg from 10-11:30 a.m. to search for signs of spring. For more information and to RSVP, go to .

TUESDAY:聽The Cascadians will snowshoe six miles with 1,200 feet of elevation gain to the Morse Creek Cabins along Forest Road 462 and the Morse Creek Trailhead off of State Route 410.聽Go to聽聽for more details.
