A Wapato-area teenager has been charged with first-degree robbery and first-degree kidnapping in connection with an April 20 standoff at a convenience store.
The 15-year-old was also charged in Yakima County Juvenile Court with second-degree burglary, displaying a weapon apparently capable of producing bodily harm, and six counts each of unlawful imprisonment and felony harassment.
The 黑料福利社 typically does not name criminal suspects who are tried in juvenile court.
Yakima County sheriff鈥檚 deputies say the suspect approached a worker in an orchard in the area northeast of Wapato and asked for a ride. The worker said he could give him a ride, and when they got into the truck the suspect put a pistol to the worker鈥檚 head and ordered him to drive him 鈥渇ar away,鈥 according to a probable cause affidavit.
The worker drove to the Donald Store, 2600 Donald Wapato Road, telling the suspect he needed to buy gas for the trip, the affidavit said. At the store, the suspect demanded the worker鈥檚 truck key, which he gave him.
Once inside the store, the worker told a store clerk what was happening and told her to call police, the affidavit said.
In the store, the suspect, wearing a ski mask, told the clerk he was trying to get out of state to be with a sick relative. While he didn鈥檛 want to hurt anyone, he threatened to shoot anybody that called the police, the affidavit said.
Security camera footage showed the suspect walking around the store, going over to three men cowering in a corner, and in another segment putting the gun to the orchard worker鈥檚 head. Eventually, the suspect dropped the gun and came out of the store, where deputies, Washington State Patrol troopers and police officers from Wapato and Zillah were waiting, and the suspect was shot with a Taser before he was taken into custody, the affidavit said.
A sheriff鈥檚 designated crisis responder, a licensed mental-health professional who can be called out by authorities, and SWAT team members were preparing to head out by the time the suspect surrendered, sheriff鈥檚 spokesman Casey Schilperoort said.
After the suspect was arrested, a sheriff鈥檚 deputy found the orchard worker鈥檚 car key and a BB gun that looked like a pistol on the suspect, the affidavit said.
During an April 21st hearing in Yakima County Juvenile Court, Court Commissioner Brooke Wright set the suspect鈥檚 bail at $50,000, ordered him to have no contact with the victims, not go back to the store and be under continuous parental supervision should he be released.
As of Friday evening, he was still being held in the Yakima County Juvenile Justice Center.
