Four Valley golfers sit inside the top five of their respective tournaments at the halfway point of state golf competition on Tuesday.

Grandview's Easton Stokes shot a Round 1 71 at Tumwater Valley Golf Club to be the Valley's low man of the day at any course, and the freshman Greyhound sits in second place in the 2A boys field. West Valley's Pierson Kloster shot a 73 to rank fifth in the 4A boys field at Eagles Pride in Dupont, and Riverside Christian's聽Austin Stephens shot a 76 to lead the 1B boys field in Liberty Lake.

Riley Wilfong, twice a top-10 2B/1B girls finisher, is in fourth after shooting a Day 1 79.

Twelve other Valley golfers made the cut to compete on the final day of state competition on Wednesday, including West Valley's Ava Olszewski聽鈥� who shot a 75 to sit in 14th in Lacey despite being just three strokes off the 4A girls lead.聽聽

Stokes leads an impressive group of local CWAC Day 2 qualifiers, including teammates Grady Braman, who shot a 76 and is in a tie for ninth, and Rhett Braman. East Valley's Henry Paul and Ayden Kline both shot under 80 to extend their state trip, as did Ellensburg's Axel Tornow. Prosser's Owen Denny carded an 82 to make the cut by one stroke.

In the 2A girls tourney at in Chehalis, Selah's Elaine Mower (tied for sixth, 81) and Prosser's Bella Cha (10th, 86) both cracked the top 10 at the midpoint, and Selah's Kierra Nicholls made the cut with a Round 1 99.

Naches Valley's Lucas Hayes shot a 76 to slot ninth in the 1A boys tournament at Liberty Lake after one round, while La Salle's Aedyn Vanwingerden paced the Valley's 2B boys with an 81 to sit in a tie for eighth. Teammate Karsen Kidder and Cle Elum's Jason Graham also made the cut to play Wednesday.

Sunnyside Christian (14-6-1) will face elimination at No. 2 Naselle at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Ellensburg, EV lead after Day 1

QUINCY 鈥� A pair of Valley bests fell and the Ellensburg boys and East Valley girls took early leads after the first day of the Class 2A District 5 meet at Quincy High School.聽

Ellensburg freshman Brea Potucek extended her Valley lead in the long jump, adding half an inch to her personal best with a leap of 18 feet, 3.5 inches, while Prosser's 4x200 team dethroned West Valley for the Valley lead in 1 minute, 45.88 seconds.

The East Valley girls were runner-up in that relay and logged their only win of the way in t he pole vault when Khloe Campbell, who also finished second in the long jump, cleared 9-6.聽

Sascha Johnson (400 meters) and David Hammond (1,600) both bested teammates to give the Ellensburg boys their two wins of the first half the of the meet.

The meet will conclude Friday in Quincy.
