A Yakima man has been charged with a felony hit and run-fatality stemming from an October crash near Wapato that killed a pedestrian.

Charles William Jones Jr., 34, is scheduled to be arraigned Friday. Bail was set at $5,000.聽

According to a Washington State Patrol news release, Jones was driving a 2002 Toyota Tundra pickup that struck a pedestrian on U.S. Highway 97 sometime between 2 and 4 a.m. on Oct. 11, 2025.

Jeffrey A. Bushman, 31, of Wapato was walking southbound alongside U.S. 97 near Milepost 70, about a half-mile north of Wapato, when he was struck by a southbound vehicle that fled the scene, the WSP reported.

Bushman was found the next morning, when the incident was reported to police, and pronounced dead at the scene.

Parts from the suspect's vehicle were found at the scene. WSP police detectives began an investigation and sought anyone who witnessed the crash or had information about the vehicle or its occupants.
