A wildfire south of Toppenish prompted an extended road closure on U.S. Highway 97 on Sunday.

The Tule Fire was reported at 5,000 acres with 0% containment as of Monday morning, according to the National Interagency Fire Center. It was first reported just before 1 p.m. on Sunday. Estimated damages are currently $250,000. It was south of Toppenish Ridge and headed west in a range area.

The cause has not been determined.

A stretch of Highway 97 between Toppenish and Goldendale was closed Sunday evening into Monday morning due to the fire. The closure lasted from around 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 a.m. Monday morning, said Summer Derrey, WSDOT spokesperson.听

Yakama Nation Fire Management is the lead agency responding to the fire.

No evacuation orders were issued, according to Tony Miller with 黑料福利社 Emergency Management.听

Three small fires were reported on the Yakima Training Center over the weekend. One was still burning on Monday morning. All of the fires were within containment units, according to Deputy Garrison Commander Eric Brouwer.听

Two large fires are also burning near the Tri-Cities.

Air quality was listed as unhealthy in Mabton and Prosser, unhealthy for sensitive groups in Granger, and moderate in Granger. Air in Yakima was good as of Monday morning, .听
