To the editor - On Feb. 26, there was a very important public hearing on banning new billboards in Yakima. The hearing was well represented by the billboard industry. There were exactly two citizens who represented the concerns of the people of Yakima who oppose the visual pollution of billboards in our city.

The planning commission, to its credit, voted to ban the construction of new billboards in Yakima. The measure will now go to the City Council on March 18, when a public hearing will be held in front of the council.

It is very important that the public be represented. I urge the citizens of Yakima to attend this hearing and voice your opinion on this important issue. You can be assured that the billboard industry will be there.

Editorials

Editorials reflect the opinion of the newspaper’s editorial board and are meant to offer perspective, raise questions or advocate for change.

Though grounded in fact, editorials express opinions and are intended to spark thought and discussion.

Opinion columns:

Opinion columns represent the personal views of the writer, not the position of the newspaper.

While news articles aim to present facts without bias, opinion columns offer fact-based individual perspectives.
